Port fees Croatia

Overview

You chartered a catamaran and the next thing you are doing is - planning your sailing budget.
When planning a budget, you should consider buying food for at least the first few days of sailing trip, fuel costs and port fees.
In most ports, marinas, and bays with buoys managed by concessionaires, mooring fees are set according to the length of the vessel.
Most of the ports charge an additional 20 to 100 % higher fees for catamarans due to width.
Fees vary from place to place, as the local authorities enjoy autonomy in this respect. On the whole, the fees are set according to the range of services provided by the marina or harbor and can be anywhere from HRK 20 to 50 (EUR 3 to 7) per meter in marinas, harbors and waterfronts, while mooring to buoys costs between HRK 5 and 20 (EUR 1 to 3) per meter.

The price list for ACI club marinas can be found here ACI marinas price list

What is included in the port fee?

In marinas, the price includes:
  • electricity and water connections (unless metered, or you are sailing a mega yacht)
  • waste disposal and the use of toilets and showers
  • parking for those with permanent yearly berths is free, while visitors usually pay
  • in some harbors, electricity and water are usually available, while toilet facilities are not
  • in some places, such as Hvar or Vela Luke, the mooring fee and amenities fee are separate

Ask for a price list, which should have been verified by the harbourmaster or other state institution, and always ask for a receipt.

Bear in mind that during the summer months, you are not allowed to wash your boat on a waterfront due to water restrictions.

Also, remember that in the high season there can be quite a lot of traffic at sea, and you need to plan in advance where to spend the night, whether in a harbor, marina, or anchorage in a quiet bay. Don't wait until the last minute to start searching for a mooring

In some marinas, it is possible to book ahead of time, but you should nonetheless check your reservation before arrival.
The online system for booking and paying for moorings ACI online booking has been operational for some years, but only applies to selected marinas and marinas which are part ACI club. Keep in mind that in the season you cannot make a reservation in the popular marina for the next day. You need to book in advance at least three to four days.

Dicking in front of the restaurant/ tavern

Usually, all the restaurants located on the seafront have their own berths, moorings or buoys, for which you generally need not pay (only a small fee can be applied for electricity and water), assuming that if you use them, you are also going to dine at the same restaurant.
Such places are often full, so it is a good idea to reserve a table and berth ahead of time. At least on the same day in the morning or even better the day before.
