SPLIT
Split is the center and the largest port of Middle Dalmatia, surrounded by the islands of Brac, Hvar, Solta and Ciovo. The city was built on the historical core, the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, and as such among the few in the world is under the protection of UNESCO's cultural heritage. Northern of Split is the historical town of Trogir, the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic city in Europe, also under UNESCO protection.
This is the most interesting and most developed nautical region due to the numerous tourist offerings, the large number of marinas and good traffic connections. The city of Split has three nautical marinas, and others are located near Split - Trogir, Kastela, Rogac on Solta, Primosten, Rogoznica, Makarska, Baska voda and Tucepi.
The Split archipelago makes the islands of Brac, Hvar, Solta, Ciovo, Vis, Korcula and Lastovo. Chartering catamaran from Split area will allow you to visit mostly the largest Adriatic islands that are characterized by crystal and clear sea, rich underwater world and untouched nature and each island is universal in its own way. The island of Vis is specific to naval tunnels, remnants of the Second World War, where you can even swallow and dive. The island of Bisevo is known for Blue Cave, a natural phenomenon under UNESCO protection, which was discovered, described and painted by Austrian Baron Ransonnet. Not far from Vis there is volcanic 97 m high and uninhabited small island Jabuka. Although there is no coast suitable for fitting, the deep sea does not allow anchoring and there is not any secure bay sheltered from winds this island is very attractive to the sailors.
The Split Aquarium also belongs to the Makarska Riviera, which includes the towns of Brela, Baska Voda, Makarska, Tucepi and Ploce. Makarska is one of the most famous tourist destinations on the Croatian coast. The city is developed around a natural safe harbor and is the largest port between Cetina I Neretva lakes and a safe shelter for yachts and sailboats.
Split Airport is a few minutes away from the city center and connects Split with most of the major European cities.
