For sport and recreational fishing at the sea in Croatia you need a license regardless of whether it is done from the shore or from the boat.
The types and quantities of fishing gear and equipment that angler can use for fishing on the sea, the way of carrying out sporting or recreational fishing, the type of permit for carrying out sporting or recreational fishing at sea and the permit for fishing with the parangal and the amount of fees for certain types of permits are prescribed by the Ordinance about sporting and recreational fishing on the sea.
If the manner in which sporting or recreational fishing at sea is not prescribed by this Ordinance, the provisions of the Marine Fisheries Act and the regulations adopted pursuant thereto shall apply, which shall relate to the manner of use and use of fishing gear and equipment that may be used when carrying out an economic fishing on the sea.)
Sports fishing on the sea or recreational fishing on the sea can only be done with the possession of a daily, multi-day, monthly or annual license for sporting or recreational fishing at sea.
Types of fishing permits
- annual recreational licenses valid for the calendar year
- one-day recreational permits
- multi-day recreational permits
- yearly athletic licenses valid for the calendar year
- one-day athletic licenses
- multi-day athletic licenses
fishing rods (up to three pieces), standing parangals (one or more with up to 100 hooks) and artificial lighting (feral) up to 40 W for incandescent bulb, 30 W for halogen bulb and 10 W for LED bulb on board, exclusively for fishing with hoofs or horned horns), which can be issued only with possession of annual license
for fishing with large fishing gear with a maximum of three accessories (one rod on each attachment) or one flipper on each item, which can be issued only with the possession of an annual athletic license
for fishing in the parts of the sea which are protected by nature protection regulations in the categories of national parks, special reserves and nature parks. Types and prices of permits for these areas will be prescribed by the competent public institutions by special acts. Until the entry into force of these acts, sporting and recreational fishing in these areas is permitted under the conditions laid down in the Ordinance on sporting and recreational fishing at sea unless limitations are prescribed by special regulations within the competence of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy or a public institution that manages certain areas.
Permitted fishing gear and equipment
A fisherman who owns a sporting or recreational license may fish from the boat or the coast with the following fishing gear:
Withdrawal, up to two (2) pieces;
with a cannon, up to two (2) pieces;
withdrawal note (panulom), up to two (2) pieces;
with a horn-horn leg, a total of two (2) pieces;
a large sea worm (trap), up to two (2) pieces.
Only the owners of sea fishing sport fishing licenses, in addition to the above-mentioned fishing gear, can perform fishing and underwater rifles, up to two (2) pieces. Fishing rods using fishing rods and load carrying capacity less than 30 lb are permitted.
